This is AO’s Photo of the Week, a feature in which we unearth a compelling photograph every Monday.

In this photo, from the Dutch National Archives, a large group of children lie knitted together on sleds, ready to be pulled along by a car. They’re not the only ones adapting; a man in the background looks like he’s having no trouble riding his bicycle on snow.

Perhaps this is an example of unusual winter sports, which we reported on previously, or maybe this was just the best way of getting from A to B during that particular snowfall. Either way, it shows that snowy conditions can bring out a high degree of inventiveness.
