In a reversal of usual events, a beloved UFO was brutally abducted by a local teen in Roswell, New Mexico two weeks ago, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

The flying saucer, which had spent decades hovering over the sidewalk outside the town’s International UFO Museum and Research Center, was found in pieces in a ditch last Wednesday. Surveillance footage from the previous Saturday, March 19th, shows three hooded figures carrying the spacecraft into the back of a pickup truck and driving it away.

The museum bought the saucer for $500 in the 1990s, interim executive director Karen Jaramillo told the Journal. After it sustained damage in a winter snowstorm, staff had moved the saucer to a covered parking lot behind the building, where it proved easy prey for roving Earthlings.

After tips based on the surveillance footage, police arrested a local seventeen-year-old. As the police wrote in a Facebook post, the teen “declined to say anything about the motive for the spaceship theft.”
