Celebrating the Art of Protest

Explore a unique collection of graphic activism.

Explore the political posters of struggles that are often suppressed, hidden, and forgotten.

Twenty-five years after the LA Riots (which erupted April 29, 1992), 2017 will probably go down in history as one of the most vibrantly engaged and politically active times in the history of LA—and of the country as a whole.

From the recent Women's March Los Angeles to the "Not My President's Day" rally on the doorstep of LA's City Hall, the current political climate recalls the spirit of the 1960s and the Vietnam War Protests, the anti-nuclear marches of the 1980s, and the Million Man March in 1995.

Join Field Agent Sandi Hemmerlein for a special behind-the-scenes visit and tour of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics, an educational research archive that contains more than 90,000 protest graphics from the 19th Century to the present, a collection that's understandably growing with each new politically charged rally.

On our guided visit, we'll be able to peruse the latest exhibit in the center's gallery as well as some highlights from the permanent collection, whose areas of interest range from AIDS and LGBTQ rights to Malcolm X, Mumia, police brutality, racism, and terrorism.
