Coffee is the second-most traded commodity in the world. In this two-hour experience with Alchemy Fine Coffees, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deep into coffee by learning to roast, weigh, and bag your own beans.
Throughout the process, you’ll increase your knowledge of roasting, bean character, temperature, and timing. You’ll experience different methods of brewing amazing cups of coffee, including pour over, aeropress, brewed, and French press. We’ll talk about the fundamentals of making cold brew coffee at home, while sampling Alchemy coffees. You’ll also make your own coasters out of exotic woods. Cutting and prep will be provided by Alchemy; you get to do the fun part of burning the slabs with a branding iron and wiping on a clear finish to protect and expose the inner beauty of the burl.
Alchemy Fine Coffees purveyors Doug Tillotson and Bill Jacobs have been artisans for most of their life. As woodworkers, they’ve also spent decades crafting cabinets, furniture, and objects d’arte. While designing a kitchen for one of Seattle’s food luminaries, Bill learned the methods of coffee roasting and sourcing of green coffee beans. He got a small home roasting set up and learned how—one ¼ lb. at a time—to bring out the best in the unique character of an infinite variety of beans from every coffee-growing country in the world.
