Obscura Day 2015: The Arcology of Arcosanti

Explore where architecture and ecology unite in Paolo Soleri's unique vision for compact city design.

An experimental city constructed to demonstrate how urban conditions could be improved while minimizing our destructive impact on the earth, Arcosanti is an urban laboratory focused on innovative design, community, and environmental accountability.

Join us this Obscura Day to experience firsthand the vision and architecture of this vibrant educational community in the beautiful high desert of central Arizona. Visitors will be offered the special opportunity to experience the relational connection of spaces on site that reveal the thought behind the relationship of shared spaces, complexity and miniaturization which are core concepts in the idea of Arcology.

Our guided tour will include an overview of the Arcosanti project and a walk-through of the built environment that demonstrates a working example of how architecture could meet ecology. In addition, we'll be granted guided access to the planning office, current construction, and a very special session in the Arcosanti Archives Department to view several of Soleri’s original drawings.
