Coney Island...a place that defines curiosity, wonder and amazement, and has been a part of New York since the 1840s.
Located in the southwestern part of Brooklyn, Coney Island is home to the Mermaid Parade, the Sideshow by the Seashore, several amusement parks, the New York Aquarium, and of course Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs. For the last 175 years, this southwestern Brooklyn neighborhood has been providing endless entertainment for those who seek it.
Throughout the decades, Coney Island has been remembered and forgotten. The Coney Island Museum was established in 1980 and is dedicated to preserving the mystique that defines Coney Island. The museum features artifacts and memorabilia about the amusement park, beach and neighborhood's history and culture, as well as changing exhibits of art and culture. Join us on Obscura Day for an exclusive look at the Coney Island Museum. We will be exposed to some of the rarely seen gems of the Coney Island Archives, including access to their collection of over one thousand historic postcards and deeper look at the Mangels' Family collection. Please feel free to stick around for the sideshow which runs all day in the same building.
