Description of Position Responsibilities

Atlas Obscura Society Chapters, including the New York Atlas Obscura Society, are the official real-world outposts of Atlas Obscura. Through chapters, we run a regular program of local explorations designed to reveal the area’s hidden gems and get enthusiastic locals and our readers off the computer and out exploring.

As an Atlas Obscura field agent, you will be responsible for setting up one tour, talk, experience or expedition each month that is designed to illuminate the hidden places all around us and inspire curiosity in attendees. This role is a per-event paid position.

Specific Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Creating the plan for interesting events
  • Organizing and lead events
  • Writing event reports
  • Managing ticket inventory
Skills & Experience Required

We are seeking an enthusiastic adventure nerd who understands and loves what Atlas Obscura is about and would like to help bring it to life in New York.

Along with a passion for discovery, a good Field Agent:

  • Has a love and knowledge of New York City - its hidden wonders and strange histories
  • Is a self-starter
  • Is responsible and punctual
  • Is committed to high-quality content
  • Is able to be resourceful, open-minded, creative, and collaborative
  • Is outgoing, engaging, has a sense of humor
  • Has a computer and Internet access adequate for working remotely
  • Travelers preferred - although it is not a requirement, we are travelers ourselves and we are excited to add more world-minded individuals to our numbers
  • Museum or tour group experience
  • Enthusiasm or academic experience in history or science
  • PR, marketing or social media professional experience
