One of only three castles on the left bank of the Rhine River left undestroyed over the centuries, Burg Eltz has remained in the same family for over 850 years, or 33 generations. Completed between 1490-1540, the 80 room castle today is still occupied and looks much as it would have hundreds of years ago. Rick Steve's has called Burg Eltz his "favorite castle in Europe."
