King Knud (Canute IV, Canute the Holy) and his brother Benedict were murdered in 1086 by peasants.  He was a very ambitious king who was loyal to the church.  After his murder, miracles were being reported at his and his brother’s burial site, so a church was built and they were moved into the church around 1095.  in 1101 he was canonized as a saint by the church, becoming Denmark’s first saint.

To find him now, go down the stairs along the side of the altar in St. Knuds Domkirke (St. Canute’s Cathedral).  Two glass coffins are on display with Canute and Benedict.  The remains have been tested by the university in Denmark multiple times and they have confirmed with high accuracy that they are the remains of Canute and Benedict.  Next to Canute is the original coffin cover made by his wife made.  There are sections missing which according to our guide were cut out by a later king to use as wrapping for Christmas presents for his friends.  Hey when you’re king, you can do what you want!
