“On the subway, I don’t need a microphone,” says Mike Yung, a former subway singer-turned America’s Got Talent fan favorite and semi-finalist. He loves the natural acoustics of the 23rd Street F/M station, where he used to perform.

Not coincidentally, this is the same station where Chase Sapphire cardmembers recently arrived to attend an afterparty featuring a performance by Yung, held at the former loft of the abstract expressionist Willem de Kooning. What event had they attended? A Journey Through Time on the New York City Subway System.

Inspired by New York nightlife over the decades and the vibrations that defined each era, Atlas Obscura and Chase Sapphire collaborated to create an unforgettable evening that took Sapphire cardmembers for a ride on vintage subway cars, traveling from Downtown Brooklyn to East New York and finally, to Manhattan. Cardmembers waltzed through cars that were designed to celebrate respective eras. There was swing dancing, live disco music, and even voguing.
