When "The Third Part of the Night" debuted in Poland in 1971, the Andrzej Żuławski-directed film (sometimes called the Polish David Lynch) was hailed as a deep-affecting macabre masterpiece. However, despite the praise, the film's distribution was halted by Polish authorities due to its highly controversial and gruesome nature.
Join Atlas Obscura and AFI Silver Theatre for a rare screening of this film in the beautifully restored 1938 Silver Theater.
Introducing the film and leading the Q&A will be Art Allen, Politico writer and author of the book The Fantastic Laboratory of Dr. Weigl, which chronicles the weird science that inspired the film. There will be a book signing after the film.
- This film is not rated but depicts acts of violence and adult subject matter. It is not recommended for kids under 18.
- AFI Silver is located about a six-minute walk from the Silver Spring station on the Metro Red line.
