The Arcology of Arcosanti

Discover where architecture and ecology unite in Paolo Soleri's unique vision for compact city design.

Arcosanti is an experimental city constructed to demonstrate how urban conditions could be improved while minimizing our destructive impact on the earth.

Join us this Obscura Day to experience firsthand the vision and architecture of this vibrant educational community in the beautiful high desert of central Arizona. Visitors will be offered the special opportunity to experience the spaces on site that reveal the relationship of shared spaces, complexity, and miniaturization, which are core concepts in the idea of Arcology.

Our guided tour will include an overview of the Arcosanti project and a walk-through that demonstrates a working example of how architecture and ecology could meet. In addition, we'll be granted guided access to the planning office, current construction, and a session in the Arcosanti Archives Department to view several of Paolo Soleri’s original drawings.

After the tour, visitors can dine in the Arcosanti Cafe for a very special meal followed by the 20th Annual Vivaldi Festival! Organized by the Colly Soleri Music Center, the festival will be a celebration featuring a creative intersection of opera, dance and art. The blend of classic Spanish dance, flamenco, and classical Italian composition from Vivaldi offer a vibrant and intimate atmosphere of passion and precision.
