A Battle of the Bizarre Brews

Taste your way through a delightfully strange sampling of craft beers paired with a five-course meal inside a former fire station.

At this showdown of the Battle of the Bizarre Brews, a selection of the best craft brewers from the Chicagoland area face off in a competition featuring beers with strange tastes and ingredients.

The elite brewers at Sketchbook, Temperance, Twisted Hippo, and Empirical breweries will all bring their best and most unique beers to compete to see which brew will earn your vote and be crowned Atlas Obscura's winner. Last year Temperance took home the gold. Who will win the trophy this year?

Included in your ticket will be a five-course meal specially created to compliment the strange tastes. In between beers and bites, you’ll get a chance to hear the stories of our local brewmasters, covering topics like how to open a brewery, the history of craft beer in Chicago, and how to drink a beer like an expert.

The battle goes down during Illinois Craft Beer Week, inside Chicago's Firehouse Grill. Once an actual fire station, the Firehouse Grill is an Evanston icon now under new management. Owner Pat Fowler will join us to share the some of the building's notable history.

Menu includes:

Lemon Drop Cherry Basement Party by Temperance paired with Choco Taco, cocoa and chili rubbed steak, cherry chocolate chipotle salsa, jicama slaw, cotija cheese

Let’s Not Beet Around the Bush by Empirical paired with Salt and Vinegar Wings, Dijon and goat cheese ranch, pickled carrots

Grodziske by Sketchbook paired with PBJPP & Pickle & Chips, Peanut Butter and apricot jam pulled pork, bread and butter pickles, potato chips on Texas Toast
