*Canceled*Obscura Society IL: Exploring America, from First Contact to Last Frontier at the Newberry Library

Behind the closed doors of this institute awaits a cornucopia of American artifacts.

Join us for an awe-inspiring morning at the illustrious Newberry Library; Chicago's independent research library since 1887. Get the history on the building and founder before seeing (and possibly touching) rare and unique items from the Newberry Library's renowned collections on American history with Will Hansen, Director of Reader Services and Curator of Americana. From early maps of the New World and a journal from the Lewis and Clark expedition to beautiful rare watercolors and sketches, each item has its own incredible and unique story to share, making this a not to be missed experience.

This event is hosted by Atlas Obscura Field Agent Amy Weber. She is a dedicated national and international traveler. She enjoys the challenge of getting on a plane and letting life just happen. With over 15 solo tours under her belt she knows the joys of exploration and finding that something extra that makes the experience spectacular. Being grown up she now is limited to two weeks of vacation so exploration around her backyard is her jam.
