The Dioramas and Animatronics of the Bhagavad-gita Museum

Get ready to experience Krishna's Transcendental Manifestations.

Combining an ancient method of clayworking with state-of-the-art electronics (circa 1977), this unique museum presents the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita through narration, movement, and visual effects.

Join us for a tour of the Bhagavad-gita Museum, located at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness of Los Angeles. In a private visit arranged especially for Atlas Obscura Society Los Angeles, we'll explore the museum and the temple, and we'll learn more about the history of this hidden cultural treasure as we're guided by the museum's director, Radha-Krishna das.

Capacity inside the museum is extremely limited. Because of space restrictions, we will enter in shifts. Afterwards, we'll gather at 12 pm for a 30 minute tour of the temple. For those with time between tours, we recommend grabbing a snack next door at Govinda's "karma-free vegan and vegetarian dining" (not included in ticket price) and exploring the gift-shop.

Continue exploring Culver City! If you've got time in your schedule, we highly recommend visiting two of our other favorite places, located right around the corner: The Museum of Jurassic Technology and Center for Land Use Interpretation.

Henry David Thoreau's reflections on the Bhagavad-gita: “In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad-gétä, since whose composition years of the gods have elapsed, and in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seem puny and trivial; and I doubt if that philosophy is not to be referred to a previous state of existence, so remote is its sublimity from our conceptions.”
