Join us to celebrate the launch of the Seattle Obscura Society with music, drinks, and urban adventure!
The Seattle Underground is one of the city’s own hidden wonders—the subterranean remains of a historic downtown which was built over and buried following the Great Fire of 1889. Yet many of it’s tunnels remain hidden to this day, kept off-limits from the average tourist. On the eve of Saturday, October 8th, several of those tunnels will be opened for a blow-out celebration of both the launch of the Seattle Obscura Society and the release of Atlas Obscura’s first book, complete with an open bar of libations, live swing, and carousing so lively it ought to be illegal. Attendees will all receive a book as part of their ticket price!
For this very special event, we'll have access to typically off-limits sections of the city underground in which to drink and dance the night away. As we poke our heads around these shadowy, subterranean city streets we’ll also celebrate the publication of our new book: Atlas Obscura: An Explorer’s Guide to the World’s Hidden Wonders, in partnership with Elliott Bay Book Company.
We’ll have a chance to hear Atlas Obscura co-founder Dylan Thuras share some of the most curious, awe-inspiring locations featured in the book (from the secret apartment Gustave Eiffel built high atop the Eiffel Tower, to the spectacular New Zealand caves lit by glowworms, to the World’s Quietest Room) and converse together afterwards! Then, Atlas Obscura books and drinks in hand, we'll move deep beneath the streets of Pioneer Square for an underground soiree amid the labyrinthine passageways and ruins of the historic buried city.
