Obscura Society NY: Turnstile Tours - Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present & Future

Join us for an in-depth tour of this historic shipyard turned thriving industrial park

Explore the extraordinary past, present and future of the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard.

This two-hour guided tour explores the vast 300-acre property of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and offers opportunities to take a closer look at history, industry, and the ongoing transformation of this remarkable site. Stops along the tour will include a working dry dock built in 1851 and still used for commercial ship repair, the Navy Yard barge basin that is now being used to restore oysters to New York Harbor, and the historic Naval Hospital Campus that is virtually frozen in time. Oral history clips and historical photographs, as well as stories of companies in the Yard today and the ongoing industrial redevelopment of the Yard, will also be included on this tour.

While we’ll be using a bus to get from place to place, we will be getting off the bus at most stops - please wear comfortable shoes and make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

Presented by Turnstile Tours and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92.
