Atlas Obscura is curating a unique experience to highlight the variety of tasty, modern delicacies being brewed up inside what was once a traditional meat-packing facility.
This tour, featuring exclusive tastings, will be inside The Plant. Amid the remains of Chicago’s infamous stockyards, this green oasis is now home to amazing and inventive culinary businesses.
As part of the tour, we’ll visit Kombuchade, sample some of their Kombucha flavors and also take home a full bottle of a new spirulina CBD kombucha. Afterward, we’ll sit down in the Whiner Brewery taproom for a flight of Whiner’s uniquely brewed beer. To top it all off, Pleasant House Bakery will serve samples of wood-fired pizzas served from their oven, just adjacent to the taproom.
About the Plant
The Plant is on the site of a 100,000-square-foot former pork-processing plant, active from 1925 to 2007. In its glory days, it was one of Chicago's largest pork-processing facilities. In 2010, Bubbly Dynamics, purchased the building and began renovating it with creative approaches to resource and energy efficiencies. Today, it is a collaborative community of over 20 food businesses committed to material reuse and closed-loop systems, including seven farms, beer and kombucha breweries, a vegan frozen gelato maker, spice and cheese distributors, and more.

- Ticket fee includes a tour of The Plant, a tour of Whiner Brewery, one beer flight (3 samples), a bottle of Kombuchade to take home, and light pizza samples. Guests are encouraged to stick around after the event to order a full pizza or Royal Pies from Pleasant House Bakery.
