Discover the Fascinating World of Beetles

See the largest dung beetle collection in the country! Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Have you ever been behind-the-scenes at a natural history museum? There's much to discover—what you see in public exhibits is usually less than 1% of the specimens and artifacts that a museum actually holds.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has over 4 million objects in its research collections, and is one of the best collection facilities in the world. Deep beneath the museum is a treasure trove of rare and scientifically important specimens, and among those hidden treasures is the largest dung beetle collection in the country! Specimens date from the 1850s and come from around the world–Guantanamo to North Korea to Wake Island to Swaziland. You'll see beetles larger than mice and moths smaller than flies.

Curator and world-renowned beetle expert Dr. Frank Krell will guide us in exploring the collections as well as give us the inside scoop on the scientific work done at the museum.
