This year’s Obscura Day coincides with Sigmund Freud’s birthday! Seize the day and celebrate the father of psychoanalysis with a special tour and a glass of champagne at Freud’s former apartment and practice at Vienna’s famous Berggasse 19. Have a look behind the scenes and explore hidden places that are usually closed to the public.
The tour will start at 9 am, one hour before the museum officially opens to the public. Enjoy the private atmosphere of the museum as we present the current special exhibition “The apartment is doing well: The Freuds at Berggasse 19," in addition to Freud’s famous practice rooms. The tour will continue with a special look behind the scenes: see Freud’s bedroom as well as his former treatment room on the ground floor, both usually off limits to the public. You will also have the opportunity to view apartment number seven, a nearly unrenovated space in the building where a wealthy Jewish family lived.
In honor of Sigmund Freud’s birthday, we will end this unique tour (limited to 20 people) with a special treat: a glass of champagne in Freud’s former parlor, now the library reading room. Cheers, we are looking forward to having you!
