Hendrick's Congress for Curious People is proud to present a special activity for Obscura Day 2017: a walking tour in one of the most exciting districts in Barcelona, Gracia, with an exclusive visit to Oleguer Junyent's workshop, an extraordinary Belle Epoque atelier.
"Gràcia,” an independent village until 1897, is well known today for being one of the biggest cultural centers in our city, with dynamic societies and one of the most emblematic festivals in our country. On this tour, we will discover its history and above all, the most surprising curiosities in the district. Take a journey through time exploring the following topics: famous visitors, the legends in “plaça de la Virreina” and the “Devil’s House”, the clocks of Gracia, revolutions and freemasonry, the local circle of spiritist women in the late XIX century, and more episodes from the past.
The tour will continue in Oleguer Junyent's workshop, the private art studio of a Catalan genius who devoted his life to painting, writing, collecting, and stage design. In addition to Oleguer's paintings, sculptures, models, and various other works, the workshop contains one of the most complete collections of automata in the city, after the Tibidabo Amusement Park. Sabine Armengol, heir of the artist's family, will guide the visitors in the workshop.
- Meeting point: Saturday 6th May, 17.00h. Main gate in the "Josepets" Church, Avinguda de la República Argentina, 4, Barcelona. For location on Google Maps, click here.
- The walking tour and the visit to Oleguer Junyent's workshop will finish at around 20.00h.
- Price: 20 euros. The tour is planned for 30 persons.
