Obscura Day 2015: Hidden Pages, An Afternoon of Rare and Occult Books

Enjoy a curated experience on demonology, witchcraft, classic horror, and the supernatural in the lavish reading room of the Philadelphia Athenaeum.

Organized in 1814, the Philadelphia Athenaeum is a true architectural and cultural marvel in the city landscape.

The Athenaeum boasts an expansive collection of rare and unique works in rare books and archival collections. A few of the notable items in their massive collection are books of occult import.

Everyone will have the opportunity to view up close centuries-old tomes on witchcraft, mesmerism, and the occult sciences.This unique experience will be curated by the Athenaeum’s Executive Director herself, who is sure to evoke the eerie and ominous past of these otherworldly works in the present day.
