Évora has a history dating back more than two millennia.
Over the course of history the ancient city has fallen under the rule of the Celts, the Romans, and the Moors before becoming a part of the Kingdom of Portugal in the Middle Ages. Still partially surrounded by medieval walls, Évora has a rich and varied history, reflected in the diversity of culture and architectural styles found on the city streets.
