Obscura Day 2015: Behind the Scenes at the May Natural History Museum

Join us for a very special tour of the world's largest private insect collection!

Over 7,000 species of beautiful butterflies and moths, bizarre beetles, giant spiders, deadly scorpions and more await at Colorado Springs' beloved "Bug Museum".

May Museum Founder James May traveled the world for over 80 years, collecting over 100,000 insect specimens. Join us this Obscura Day to view the rare, exotic and beautiful bugs of the May Collection as we venture beyond the showroom for a very special behind-the-scenes tour. Attendees can expect to learn a little of everything from the world of insects and arthropods including stories of how the specimens were caught and mounted, a short history lesson in entomology, current industry trends, and a short video explaining the history behind the May collection.

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the museum grounds following our tour!
