Obscura Day 2015: Celebrate LA!

Obscura Day is a global cultural event in which people all over the world–from Paris to Poughkeepsie–go out in groups to explore the "curious" places in their hometowns.

Join the Obscura Society LA and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority at Vista Hermosa Park for an Obscura Day celebration!

After a full day of exploring the wonders of Southern California, we invite you to kick-back and relax at Vista Hermosa Park, a hidden oasis in the heart of the city. Roast marshmallows and share stories of your travels with fellow adventurers and Obscura Society field agents while exploring this 10.5-acre park filled with native plants and dazzling views of Downtown LA.

We will also be joined by the Burbank Sidewalk Astronomers who will be setting up telescopes for public viewing of objects in the night sky.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) to host this celebration. The MRCA is dedicated to the preservation and management of local open space and parkland, watershed lands, trails, and wildlife habitat. The MRCA manages and provides ranger services for almost 69,000 acres of public lands and parks that it owns and that are owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy or other agencies and provides comprehensive education and interpretation programs for the public. The MRCA works in cooperation with the Conservancy and other local government partners to acquire parkland, participate in vital planning processes, and complete major park improvement projects.
