Obscura Day 2015: Epidaurus & Mycenae

Join us as we explore the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae.

Join KeyTours this Obscura Day as we explore the land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. Join us on Obscura Day to visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. We'll explore the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, and the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra's, as well as the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure.

Following Mycenae we will visit a local pottery factory before stopping for a traditional Greek lunch. After lunch we'll be proceeding to Nauplia, the first capital of modern Greece, to view the Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi, before continuing on to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theatre. Epidaurus is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asclepius, the healer, and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world.
