Obscura Day 2015: Inside the Walls of the Old Melbourne Gaol

Step inside the walls of this imposing historic institution to discover Melbourne's criminal past.

Built in the 1800s to house Victoria's rapidly growing criminal population, the Old Melbourne Gaol is one of Melbourne's oldest surviving buildings and was the site of over 130 hangings during its 90 years of operation.

Join us on Obscura Day as we step inside the Old Melbourne Gaol to enter a world where some of Australia's most infamous criminals were held, including bushranger Ned Kelly and notorious gangster Squizzy Taylor. We'll be guided through the history of the institution as we tour its cells and visit unique exhibits within the walls, including the Gaol's collection of death masks.
