Join us for a guided tour of the Moulagenmuseum Zurich.
Started in 1916, the Moulagenmuseum contains an extensive collection of wax representations of diseases such as cancer, syphilis, and leprosy. Prior to color photography and advanced plastics technology, moulages were indispensable tools for sharing medical and scientific knowledge.
This Obscura Day, join us as we delve into the collections of the Moulagenmuseum, the history of fabrication of wax moulages and the fabrication of wax moulages today. Historical and contemporary diseases (mainly of the skin) will be shown with wax moulages, and we'll have a chance to view the surgical wax moulages which are a specialty of the Zurich collection. Medical questions may be asked!
