One of a kind in southern Italy, the Catacombs of San Gennaro stand out in their unique majesty, historical importance, and cultural value.
Within the catacombs, several overlapping levels have been reached through horizontal excavation, revealing a surface of 5600 square meters of artistic stratifications. The layers are impressive in their intricacy, displaying walls decorated with mosaics and mural paintings that date back to VI century A.C. The interior vestibule is awe-inspiring in its beauty, opening the doors to an underground city and Basilica Minor--an underground church with three corridors, built in "tufo", and dedicated to the ancient cult of the protector of Naples.
Join us on Obscura Day to explore the catacombs of San Gennaro, an underground city of unprecedented beauty!
