Obscura Day 2015: The Museum of Natural & Artificial Ephemerata

Where does the museum end and real life begin?

Welcome to the Museum of Natural & Artificial Ephemerata (MNAE), where you have been all along!

The Museum of Natural & Artificial Ephemerata is one of the few remaining in-home, family-run museums in America. MNAE'S mission is to preserve endangered modes of collection, to offer a venue where the public can share objects and their stories, and to contemplate diverse processes of collecting.

MNAE has no tags, so all tours are verbal and guided by the curators. The 'impermanent collection' is a chronological panorama of collecting in the west, moving from saintly relics to wunderkammern to dime museums, world's fairs, amusement parks, and parlors. The Museum focuses especially on the shifting categories of 'natural' and 'artificial' across time, and the special role of auratic wonder and hoaxes in the history of collecting.

Saturday, May 30
MNAE will be offering guided Obscura Day tours of their "impermanent collection" and the Ephemerata Gardens from 10:00am - 11:00am & 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Cost: $5
