Obscura Day 2015: The Voodoo Queen of New Orleans

Join us to explore the life and legends of the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, one of the most powerful women in New Orleans history!

This Obscura Day, join Strange True Tours to explore the life and legends of Marie Laveau, an incredibly smart and powerful businesswoman.

Our tour will begin with the unique French & Spanish influence that led to women & Africans having inherent rights as human beings in 19th- century New Orleans, creating an unusual setting for the era in which women had property and control over their own lives and allowing for Marie Laveau's rise in power.

On this Obscura Day tour we will visit one of Laveau's actual historic residences and take a trip into Congo Square, delving into the Voodoo religion and its important role in her story. We'll end our tour with a venture into the cemetery to pay our respects at her final resting place (or places, depending on who you ask).

Saturday, May 30; 10:00 - 11:30am
Ticket Cost: $25
Meet-up will be at 827 Toulouse St. at the Vacherie coffee shop on the corner of Toulouse & Dauphine.
