This Obscura Day, explore the rich and truly misunderstood relationship between man and pigeon.
The American Pigeon Museum honors this long-standing interaction and the simple majesty of the birds themselves. First forming in 1973 as the American Homing Pigeon Institute, the organization was initially devoted to the sport of training pigeons. In 1993, the organization expanded, purchasing ten acres in Oklahoma City where they opened the pigeon museum and the affiliated "World of Wings" pigeon center.
Join us on Obscura Day for a behind-the-scenes tour of the American Pigeon Museum's hidden collections, including the wings of Doc Hollander, used for genetic research and not typically on display for public view. We will also tour the lofts to view the museum's collection of pigeons, with an opportunity to observe a bird release. Refreshments and a tour of the museum will be included!
