Aggrieved by an ague? Gout got you down? We have just the cure for what ails you: Come learn about old-time pharmacy first-hand at the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum!
Dispensing tinctures and elixers of the finest quality from 1792 to 1933, the Apothecary’s list of patrons once included such notables as Martha Washington and Robert E. Lee. Today, the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary is a museum that contains one of the world’s most perfectly conserved collections of curative curiosities.
Invigorating doses of historical knowledge will be provided by Linda Lovell and Kenneth Miller, two life-long experts of both the ancient and modern medical arts. Then get ready to showcase your best mortar and pestle technique as we learn to grind our very own dragon’s blood tooth-powder, which you can take home with you!
Linda Lovell spent her career working for the Federal Government as a biochemist, molecular biologist and is now the president of the Mortar and Pestle Society.
Kenneth W. Miller, Ph.D., is a retired pharmacy educator who was the President/Dean of Albany College of Pharmacy and Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
The evening will conclude with an optional excursion to one of Alexandria’s local public houses where we will partake in the only scientifically proven remedy for Thursdays: beer.
