Obscura Society LA: Historic Hollywood Pub Crawl

Come for the history, but stay for the old fashioneds

Hollywood: it’s a place where the wildest dreams can come true, and where the loftiest aspirations can crash to earth with terrible finality, either of which calls for drinks all around.

And from the time of Tinseltown’s incorporation into the city of Los Angeles, Hollywood Boulevard has offered dimly-lit, gin-soaked rooms for screenwriters, stars, servicemen, tourists, and more to wet their beaks, drown their sorrows, raise a glass in celebration - or make a pick-up for the night.

In the days when Red Car trolleys plied the Boulevard, you could stumble from the radio studios on Vine Street into the welcoming darkness of the Frolic Room, catch a premiere at the Chinese Theater and then gape at the stars over Old Fashioned’s at the Hotel Roosevelt’s CineGrill, even rub elbows with Raymond Chandler – or the Black Dahlia - at Boardner’s.

From one end of Hollywood Boulevard to the other, join us for the Hollywood Historic Pub Crawl, when we’ll walk the Street of Dreams, popping in to bend an elbow at historic watering holes along the way. The Crawl includes a drink on us, historical background on each bar from Scott Garner of “Los Angeles Past," authentic historic drink specials just for our crawl and...

A very special $20 credit for new users of the awesome ride-share service Lyft so that you can go to and fro for the evening safetly! Code will come courtesy of Lyft after ticket purchase.

We’ll belly up to the bar in these famed Hollywood nightspots:

-Frolic Room – the former VIP lounge of the Pantages Theater, it’s known for the Hirschfield caricatures on its walls.

-Musso & Frank – favorite of Hollywood’s literary lights, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and William Faulkner

-The Pig and Whistle – a favorite of Egyptian Theater patrons since 1927

-Boardner’s – a favorite of everyone from Bob Mitchum to the Black Dahlia

-Hotel Roosevelt – site of the first Academy Awards ceremony, the grand old hotel is famously haunted, and still fabulous 86 years after opening its doors.

Plus an extra surprise at the end of the night!
