As with any metropolis, Los Angeles has changed a great deal over time.
War, gangs, oil, corruption, railroads, movies, and water populate the history of LA. In the beginning of the 20th century, a population boom happened and downtown Los Angeles rose. It became the financial and entertainment capital of the west. Buildings and structures went up overnight. Art-deco became the architecture style of choice, showing off the glamour, luxury, and excess of the 1920s/30s Los Angeles. It was high time for Los Angeles. Luckily, today, we have the gorgeous black and white pictures that captured this era for us to gaze upon. Join Obscura Society LA and losangelespast.com for a time traveling scavenger hunt. We will begin at Pershing Square and using the decades-old pictures that have been collected by losangelespast.com, teams of 4 or 5 will go on the hunt for these LA landmarks.
Afterwards, join us at the famous (and pirate-themed) Redwood Bar for winners to be declared and drinks to be had!
So bone up on your LA history, grab your running shoes, and put on your time traveling helmet... LA's past needs to be found!

-Teams will be composed of 4 or 5 people. So, if you plan on arriving with a group smaller than that number, you'll be paired up with other people. On that same note, if you arrive with more than that number, your group will be split up.
-The route will be appx. 3 miles long and it will be at the end of June, so it could be hot. Bring water and wear appropriate shoes.
-If you have a smartphone, bring it. You can use it as a map for the hunt. If you don't, no worries. We will have paper copies as well.
-The hunt portion of the event will be over about 7pm. We will then go to The Redwood Bar (316 West 2nd Street) to celebrate, where they'll have a section reserved for us until appx. 9 pm.
-We will meet at Pershing Square and start from there.
