If the thought of Halloween being over and Christmas season in full swing depresses you, then cheer up! We have just the yuletide goblin for you... Krampus, the Christmas demon!
Originating in the alpine region of Europe, Krampus has gone by other names, including The Horned Devil, Knecht Ruprecht, Schmutzli, Pelznickel, and Klaubauf, but his task has remained the same: to punish the naughty children that jolly old St. Nick wants no part of.
Often depicted as the hellspawn companion of Santa Claus and looking like the classical horned devil or a furry were-beast, Krampus punishes the bad kids by spanking them with tree branches. But for the truly wicked kids, he gets to drag them hell. How cool is that?
Unfortunately, the practice of Krampus was discouraged in the 1930’s as Christmas became more commercialized and "sweet." After World War II, the practice of Krampus had a resurgence in Austria and Germany and with the Internet’s growth, exported to the USA.
Come join field agent Robert Hemedes as we visit the headquarters of the Los Angeles Krampus organization to learn all about the demonic side to the holiday season and find out what they have in store for us in December.
A presentation by the group's leaders will be followed by a Q&A session. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with the local Krampus. Perfect for those holiday cards! Plus, we will have some special (alcoholic) Krampus -inspired treats on hand for all over 21 to enjoy!
- The headquarters are located in North Glendale. An exact address will be sent to attendees closer to the event date.
- Due to the nature of the event, we request that everyone attending is over 21 years old.
- Street parking will be available.
- Please visit krampuslosangeles.com to see all the other events the Krampus Society of Los Angeles is doing throughout the month of December.
