Obscura Society NY: Poe's Cottage

Visit the historic farmhouse where Edgar Allan Poe spent the last years of his life

Join us for a tour of the small Bronx cottage where renowned horror author Edgar Allan Poe spent the last years of his life and wrote some  of his most enduring pieces.

After years of shuffling from one location to the next seeking literary recognition and struggling to make ends meet, Poe settled his family in the still undeveloped Bronx countryside in 1846, hoping that the the move would be beneficial for his wife's ailing health.  Too far gone, she passed within a year, devastating the author who died as well only two years later in Baltimore under mysterious circumstances.

Friday, October 24 the New York Obscura Society will join the Bronx County Historical Society for a tour of Poe's historically preserved home, renovated in recent years and restored to its original appearance.  From Poe's own rocking chair to the bed in which his beloved wife Virginia passed, we'll explore what remains of the home in which the renowned author lived, loved and mourned while writing Annabel Lee, The BellsEureka and several other important poetic pieces.

Friday, October 24; 11am - 12:00pm
