Join Atlas Obscura for another special screening of rare public access performances unique to Los Angeles. Field Agent Adam Papagan has scoured the depths of YouTube, local community television Facebook groups, and good old fashion VHS tapes to curate a program of wonderfully bizarre videos you won’t see anywhere else.
Every cable access producer dreams of hitting the big time. The chance to leave behind their dingy, cable company subsidized studios for national success and mainstream acceptance. Few (if any) will make it, but the glimmer of opportunity public access television provides has made it a platform for some of the strangest performers in the history of entertainment. Add to this the glitter and lights of Hollywood and you are in for trouble.
Expect tone deaf singers, inept go-go dancers, cringe-worthy comedians, and a score of others whose talents may be harder to identify, all presented in their lo-fi analog glory. Only in Los Angeles can this incredible array of talent (we use this term loosely) find its way on the air. The creative spirit is determined in this City of Dreams.
Your host for the evening, Adam, is an outspoken supporter of community television and longtime producer/host of The Del Talk Show and The ASMR Talk Show. He'll also be joined by current and past public access producers (schedules permitting).
The only way to tune in is in person. No cable subscription required.
