Rosehill Cemetery Walk

One of our most popular monthly events returns for the 2019 season!

Take a stroll through history in Chicago's largest cemetery with author and historian Adam Selzer. One of the oldest "garden cemeteries" in town, Rosehill, is full of heroes, villains, and some lesser-known eccentrics, with some of the city's most captivating artwork.

Join us for a fascinating (and often hilarious) stroll through history. Sneer at the grave of a notable racist, tip your hat to the man who thwarted a Civil War insurrection, admire a haunting statue that was once in Lincoln Park, puzzle over the mystery of a supposed Revolutionary War soldier, and allow yourself a chuckle at the guy whose name is "Bangs" and whose gravestone features a train going into a tunnel. Every tour is a bit different—there's always more to discover!

  • The event will run rain, shine, or snow.
  • Meet Field Agent Adam Selzer inside the cemetery entrance at 5800 N. Ravenswood, at the corner of Rosehill and Ravenswood. He'll be just inside the stone gates, checking people in.
  • A short talk will be given at the start, but the majority of the event will be a walking tour in the eastern portion of the cemetery.
  • The tour covers approximately one mile.  There are two options for start times, 11:00am and 1:30pm.
  • This tour is family-friendly but parents are advised that they must keep an eye on their kids.
  • The event has limited ADA access. Much of the tour is on pavement, but it does veer off the beaten path and through the grass.
  • Wear your walking shoes and bring your cameras!
  • Lot or street parking is available. The closest public transit is the #22 Clark bus, which will drop you a few blocks away from the cemetery entrance.
  • This ticket is non-refundable, but you can transfer it by following this handy Eventbrite tutorial.
