Scandal, Assassination, and Spies in Lafayette Square

Join former White House speechwriter Ed Moser as we wade into the swamp in front of Washington’s most famous residence.

The grassy Lafayette Square in front of the White House has been the site of over two centuries of noteworthy spectacles and chaos. Perhaps because of its proximity to great power, the park seems to attract controversy like a moth to a flame.

Join us as we wade into the "swamp" and hear all the assassination conspiracies, traitors, spies, sex scandals, and duels that happened in or close-by Lafayette Square.

Your guide, Ed Moser, is a former White House scribe, writer for the Tonight Show, historian, and professional tour guide. Moser is also the author of The Two-Term Jinx, Foundering Fathers, and America A to Z.

Additional Details:

  • Meet up under the shadow of the Andrew Jackson statue, at the center of Lafayette Square.
  • For this event, we recommend taking public transportation. The closest Metro stations are Farragut West and Mcpherson Square on the Blue, Orange and Silver Line.
  • This is a walking tour, so please bring water and appropriate footwear.
