Open Kayak, Paddle Board & Drop-In Ecology Hours

Stop by in the morning to paddle out on Lady Bird Lake and get closer to the natural world with our on-site local ecologists.

This SXSW, connect with the watery wonders of Austin with a morning of lakeside escapades.

We've partnered with Congress Avenue Kayaks to reserve free morning boat rentals for our guests to head out and explore the waters of Lady Bird Lake. Stand up paddle boards will be available along with single and double kayaks. On a first-come, first-serve basis, as sizes permit, boaters will also be able to test GORE-TEX INFINIUMTM Stretch Gloves and jackets with GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY® product technology.

Meanwhile at the Waller Creek Boathouse docks we'll be joined by a group of local ecologists from the Biodiversity Center and Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin onboard. These dynamic experts in local wildlife and wetlands will include Dr. Susan Cameron Devitt, Dulce Carbajal and Alison Northup, who will be on hand to highlight the hidden wonders of the natural world on land and on lake.

This excursion is part of In the Element, a two-day activation presented by Atlas Obscura & GORE-TEX Brands at the Waller Creek Boathouse on Lady Bird Lake.
