Ever wanted to know how The Atlas Obscura Society explores our city? Atlas Obscura and Filson are teaming up to help you gear up and go on an urban adventure. Our speakers will be discussing wondrous and hidden weekend escapes for the perfect DC weekend.
Elliot Carter is an Atlas Obscura Society DC Field Agent and Chief Explorer who has an oversized interest in maps and Capitol arcana. His bylines include Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Examiner, The Hill and DCist. Elliot grew up in Bethesda and now lives in Adam Morgan. He will be discussing the hidden histories and unknown wonders around familiar sights on the Mall and highlighting some off-the-beaten-path gems that don't get enough love.
Judy Lathrop is the founder of Atlantic Kayak Company and a recovering environmental & energy lawyer. She loves exploring history from the water and sharing with others the special, hidden places that the Chesapeake Bay has to offer. She will be discussing how to spend a perfect weekend kayaking through the obscure creeks and waterways of the DC-area, including where to find the Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay.
The event will be moderated by Matt Blitz, the head of Atlas Obscura Society DC.
