The Atlas Obscura Society Escapes San Francisco

Explore the wonders that lay outside SF, with talks by two local adventurers.

Ever wanted to know where the Atlas Obscura Society goes to escape the city? Atlas Obscura and Filson are teaming up to help you gear up and get out. We'll hear from two adventure experts and discuss surprising and undiscovered weekend escapes from the everyday hustle of the Bay Area.

Kirk Lombard is an author, fisherman, raconteur, musician, and tour guide. Few people know the delicious secrets of the California coast like him. With colorful storytelling, Kirk will inspire you to not just explore our shoreline, but turn it into a culinary expedition by foraging your own seafood.

Tim Hwang is an urban explorer, author of a field guide to shipping containers, and co-founder of the Infrastructure Observatory. To Tim, a long weekend means a chance to climb around rock quarries and dredging operations. We'll hear how the power plants, reservoirs, and satellite dishes you drive past aren't just on the way to your adventure, they are the adventure.
