Uncovering Echo Park

Discover the hidden history of one of LA's trendiest neighborhoods.

Scandalous preachers, shady real estate developers, and lake legends! Since the early 1900s, Echo Park has been a hub of metropolitan life and lore in Los Angeles.

Join writer and historian Hadley Meares as we take a stroll around Echo Park and discuss its rich and revealing history. Stops will include the iconic Jensen's Recreation Center on Sunset Blvd., Aimee Semple McPherson's famed Angelus Temple, and the iconic "Lady of the Lake Statue." We will also discuss the importance of city parks in early LA, and tell slice of life stories—some sad, some funny—from the park's 100 years history.

  • Meet in front of the boathouse: 751 Echo Park Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026.
  • This is a one mile walking tour. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • This is an outdoor tour. We will not be touring any buildings.
  • A signed liability waiver is required from all attendees.
