Wagnerian Barcelona Tour and Opera Concert

Come experience theater, opera, and Richard Wagner on this unique and immersive celebration in the heart of Barcelona.

Irina Sytcheva, international tour guide and Felipe Trigo, director of the “Hendrick’s Congress for Curious People” in Spain, are pleased to present “La Barcelona Wagneriana,” a theatrical itinerary that will culminate with a concert at Els Quatre Gats to commemorate 120 years of this institution. In this surprising itinerary, you will discover the enormous influence of Wagner and the Germanic community during the Modernist century. This event is a unique opportunity, taking place the same week of the premiere of Tristan and Isolda in the Liceu Theater.

Throughout the streets of the “Barri Gòtic” and the Ramblas we will discover the links between the German Romanticism and the Romanticism in Catalonia, highlighting emblematic places such as the Teatre Principal, Liceu, and other more unknown locations frequented by admirers and artists related to Wagner. We will evoke the history of fundamental institutions like the Ateneu, or the former headquarters of the Wagnerian Association of Barcelona as well as other spaces linked to the figure of Wagner, Casa Beethoven, or the missing “Sala Chassaigne." In addition, our tour guides—dressed as citizens of Modernist Barcelona—will share with you the passion for Wagner in the first half of the 20th century in addition to curiosities and anecdotes related to other famous characters.

As a tribute to the restaurant and cabaret “Els Quatre Gats” for its 120th anniversary, we will celebrate an extraordinary concert to remember October 12, 1901, the date of the founding of the Wagnerian Association in this place. We will have a luxury cast: the masterful soprano Tamara Alexeeva—with an impressive international artistic career in theaters based in 18 countries—and the prodigious pianist Daria Piltyay, first prize in the International Competition of Rome and a degree from the Conservatory of the Liceu theater. Two sublime Russian artists will delight us with their Wagnerian repertoire, in which the “Tannhäuser” and “Lohengrin” arias and other instrumental pieces will shine.
