What We’ll Do

Discover the local hangs and neighborhood haunts of Nikola Tesla, the mad genius who brought us the induction motor, the “Current War,” power distribution, and a deluge of patents. In this walking tour with ProwlerNYC, you’ll retrace the footsteps of this eccentric and colorful resident who left a charged impression on our fair city.

Stops will include historic locations that you might pass by every day, including Tesla Corner, the Morgan Library, the Radio Wave building, the New Yorker Hotel, and more!
Along the way, you’ll learn about Tesla’s life, his revolutionary inventions, and his charged relationship with New York and other famous New Yorkers. Prepare to be amazed!

Where We’ll Be

We’ll start at Tesla Corner, named in honor of the great inventor, make a brief stop i n front of the grand New York Public Library, and then continue to the Morgan Library, named after the legendary financier. Then, we’ll head to the Radio Wave Building, briefly stop at Herald Square, and end our walk at the New Yorker Hotel, where our story’s hero passed away, though his legacy and impact lives on...

Deborah

Hi. I’m Deborah Zelcer, a member of the Atlas Obscura community.

I became passionate about interpreting the built environment after studying with esteemed British architectural historian Reyner Banham, and developed ProwlerNYC Walking Tours to illuminate the social, political, technological and economic contexts which have shaped buildings and cities throughout history.

After receiving my Bachelors degree in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, I worked for architecture, landscape, and interior architects. More recently I discovered the joy of entertaining audiences with tales of urban evolution after a stint in the Moth Storytelling Workshop.
