Myth, Film, and Studio Tour
On this exclusive, private-access tour, we’ll explore Los Angeles Center Studios before settling in for a media-rich discussion on the power of myth and Hollywood history. Mythology is integral to the film industry. From Star Wars to Game of Thrones, there’s hardly a billion-dollar franchise that hasn’t been touched by Campbell and his insights, especially, "The Hero’s Journey." We’ll discuss Campbell’s influence on the silver screen and take an in-depth look at the core myths behind some of Hollywood’s most legendary films.
This event takes place at Studio School on the campus of Los Angeles Center Studios. LACS has hosted the productions of favorite films and series like Westworld, Mad Men, It’s Always Sunny, Disaster Artist, Glow, OA and the Jungle Book. Studio School is the first of its kind – a film and performing arts college opened with and in studios. It was named to Variety’s international list of top-50 film schools this summer.
Hi. I’m Will, a member of the Atlas Obscura community.
I am a philosopher-mythologist with a passion for storytelling. As the Joseph Campbell Writers' Room founder and department chair at a new film and performing arts college, called Studio School, I teach mythology and storytelling. I also host a radio show called Mythosophia for Santa Barbara News-Press radio and work for the Joseph Campbell Foundation. My Ph.D. is in mythology and depth psychology.
