Drop Shot

Licorice is extremely popular in the Netherlands, where it is known as “drop.” Dutch diners consume it as candy, mixed in ice cream, and even in alcohol.

“Drop Shot” is an inky black, licorice-flavored liqueur that comes in two varieties. There’s the sweet-and-herbal “original,” and the “double black,” which offers the full flavor-punch of salty licorice. Just like salty licorice candies, Drop Shot is often served to unwitting tourists as a gag. But for those willing to try the unusual liqueur, its earthy bitterness makes for an ideal digestif.
