Saint James’ church was built on Malcom Street, Derby in 1866 but with falling Anglican congregations in the late 20th century the church went out of use after the diocese merged its parish with 3 others in 1996.

It has been converted into an indoor climbing centre with climbers having the unusual experience of climbing alongside the gothic arches of this old church.
As well as attracting committed rock climbers on some serious steep and difficult routes there are bouldering problems and easier routes for beginners. There are a number of features for younger visitors including an abseil (rappel) tower and an artificial cave to introduce kids to the skills of cave exploration in a safe environment.
