BaseCamp Hostel
Dozens of vintage campers and rail cars inside a giant warehouse
Why sleep in a camper outside in the cold German winter when you can step out into a giant warehouse featuring a picturesque Thailand beach, kit airplane, hot air balloon, and your very own lawn. Each vintage camper has been tastefully refurbished, and fashions a particular theme. With the appropriate tagline “where the fun people stay,” guests can take their pick from a nautical, racing, British, or urban-themed camper, or perhaps from a couple of cool air streams. For the social traveler on a budget, two entire passenger rail cars have been converted to fashion individual cabins.
Kids zip around the warehouse floor on scooters and bikes while parents read quietly on the trunk of a 1960’s Chevrolet converted into a sofa. Backpackers stage indoor camping scenes for the perfect photo as the faint snore of a late sleeper is heard from the corner camper. This gem teems with vintage vibes, and whether you are a guest or just a visitor the BaseCamp warehouse is incredibly unique.
Its not particularly easily accessible, but well worth the trip. It is located in the outskirts of Bonn and can be accessed by bus or a decent walk. The hostel hosts summer concerts and events in its outdoor space as well.
